My Vision

Works Councils are most effective when the Works Council and the (Dutch/ local) Director have a common goal. I developed this vision even before I became a consultation secretary. To pay for my studies, I worked as a flight attendant and purser for KLM’s daughter brand Martinair. The director at that time had a reticent attitude towards the Works Council. I found myself challenged to participate in the council’s work and while at it, I discovered the importance of acknowledging common goals. By digging in your heels, no progress was ever made. The council showed the director how a smooth Works Council process added value. It became clear to me what it should be all about: diplomacy, just as much as keeping a good pace.

Working in English

Most of the organizations I work for are multinationals, with English as the corporate language. I bring a lot of experience from working in many international environments. I understand how international organizations might sometimes mistake the unique Dutch Works Council system for Trade Union work. We Dutch people however, have co-determination and participation in our genes.

“You promised to build us a well-structured Works Council. You achieved this goal in no time and it made a world of difference. Thanks to you, the Works Council runs smoothly now.”

    Lizette van der Kamp
    Former chair of Works Council
  • Alcatel-Lucent

“The value of meeting minutes for effective Works Council processes is often underestimated. Not by me, nor by Hanneke. She knows how to transform minutes into the desired instrument for decision making processes. This way, agreements indeed lead towards action.”

    Willem-Jan Hoeffnagel
    Former chair of Works Council

“Hanneke can separate fact from emotion in a pleasant way. Due to her diplomatic wording, she helps keep the relationship between the organization and the Works Council professional and in the meantime she manages to avoid escalation, though she is not too shy to share her sharp analytics. It has been sheer pleasure to work with her during 14 years.”

    Wout Pronk
    Chair Works Council
  • APM Terminals Maasvlakte II

“Thank you for streamlining, expanding and improving our freshly started Works Council. Thank you for your upbeat, brisk and positive contribution. Thank you for your diplomatic approach. We really klicked.”

    Arwin Bos
Vice chairman of the Works Council
